Spring time means new wildlife arrivals here at the centre!

Spring time often means the pitter patter of lots of tiny feet within our wildlife populations here in the UK.  From birds to mammals, all of them begin raising their young as the warmer weather hits and as wonderful as it is to see, it does also mean that there are times when these youngsters find themselves in tricky situations and need our help.

Ducklings tend to be a common admission here as they are often orphaned or get seperated from their mother.  Hatchlings are also an animal we get asked for advice with regularly as they fall out of nests or as people find them in their gardens.  Similarly, we also tend to see more fox cubs around this time of year as they tend to begin to leave the den in March/April time to explore the environment around them and end up lost or seperated from their litter.

Here at the animal centre, we are always here to step into the role of caregiver when needed and have a purpose built wildlife room that can accommodate varying wildlife species that we may find in our countryside across the UK, alongside a team of staff who are trained in the specialised care that many wild animals need.  With us not having a vet on site however, all wildlife that we take in have to have been seen, treated and stablised by a veterinary professional prior to their arrival.

As you are enjoying the warmer weather, you may well come across a wild animal needing help.  If this happens, are you confident you would know what to do?  If not, do not worry as we have you covered!

The main RSPCA website has a wealth of advice and knowledge, many of which is species specific and you can find that here: Wildlife Welfare - Helping UK Wildlife | RSPCA - RSPCA - rspca.org.uk

You can also call the national RSPCA helpline on 0300 1234 999, us here at Rochdale on 01706 861897 or a local vets and one of us will be able to advise you accordingly dependent on the situation that you have come across.

It is so important that we look after our wild animals so that future generations can enjoy their presence for years to come, so don't hesitate in being an advocate for our wild furry and feathered friends when you are out and about this spring and summer time!
